St Mary's Church, Whimple

Key Information:

About the Church:

Located in the centre of the village, there has been a church in what we now call Whimple since Saxon times. St. Mary’s was massively rebuilt and extended with a new south aisle in 1845 by Charles Force, an Exeter builder, to the designs of John Hayward, the leading local church architect in the diocese at that date. In amongst what was new in 1845 some of the fabric from earlier versions of the church, from the 15th and 16th centuries, still survives.

Whoever you are and whatever you believe you are welcome here. We have a variety of services each month, from traditional Book of Common Prayer to a band-led informal service – The Gathering.

First Sunday: BCP Holy Communion  at 9.30am.

Second Sunday: Holy Communion (Common Worship) at 10am.

Third Sunday: The Gathering at 4pm.

Fourth Sunday: Morning Worship at 10am.

Whimple Choir

St Mary’s Church Choir is an informal, friendly choir numbering about ten, which sings in services once a month, usually at Sunday morning Holy Communion or Morning Worship services. The choir also sings at special services throughout the year including the candlelit Advent Carol Service, the Christmas Carol Service and the Village Week Songs of Praise and is available for Weddings and Memorial Services.

Band

We have a large mission community band but are always looking for more singers or musicians to join as we have a lot of churches who would love to have us visit.
